Project Overview

Implemented by CeRID in partnership with Trócaire and supported by Development and Peace–Caritas Canada, the Food Security project strengthened food production and access to nutritious food among vulnerable internally displaced and host-community households in Luuq District. It built on the gains of an earlier Trócaire-supported food-production pilot.

Overall Goal

To improve food and nutrition security while strengthening the resilience of vulnerable households to recurring humanitarian shocks.

Key Objectives

  1. Improve nutrition outcomes for children under five and pregnant and lactating women.
  2. Increase household food production and access to diverse, nutritious food.
  3. Build women farmers’ knowledge of environmentally sound production methods.
  4. Give agriculture students practical experience through attachments with farming groups.
  5. Strengthen household income and savings through cash-for-work, livelihood support, and community savings groups.

Emerging Impact

Agricultural inputs, sustainable-production training, cash-for-work, livelihood assistance, and community savings groups created a connected package of support for 150 women and their households. The inclusion of 90 agriculture students also extended practical learning and local food-production knowledge beyond the immediate participant group.
