At CERID, we understand that women and girls are the cornerstones of strong communities. That's why, since 2019, we've been dedicated to empowering them through a comprehensive program that addresses social, economic, and legal challenges.
Reaching 6,000 Women and Girls:
Our program has already provided vital support to over 6,000 adolescent girls and women in Somalia. We offer a holistic approach that includes:
- Safe Spaces: Providing safe havens where girls and women can access social support, build networks, and participate in recreational activities.
- Life Skills Training: Equipping participants with valuable skills like financial literacy, entrepreneurship, negotiation, and decision-making.
- Mental Health Support: Addressing the emotional well-being of girls and women who may have faced trauma or hardship.
- Cash and Voucher Assistance for GBV Survivors: Providing financial resources to survivors of gender-based violence to meet essential needs and support their recovery.
- Legal Support: Providing legal aid and education on women's rights to help them navigate the legal system and access justice.
Building a Supportive Network:
CERID recognizes the importance of community-wide engagement. Our outreach programs target:
- Religious and Traditional Leaders: Fostering understanding and collaboration to address issues like child marriage and gender-based violence.
- Boys and Men: Encouraging positive attitudes towards gender equality and promoting their role in supporting women and girls.
Preventing Child Marriage:
CERID's Child Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM) protection initiative specifically targets adolescent girls in schools. Through awareness campaigns, mentorship programs, and alternative education opportunities, we strive to:
- Reduce Early Marriage Rates: Equipping girls with knowledge and skills to advocate for themselves and delay marriage until they are ready.
- Keep Girls in School: Our program managers have successfully kept over 2,000 girls at risk of dropping out due to early marriage pressure, in school.
